My dissertation has four cases: California, the North East, Washington, and Alaska. In each state I selected particular wilderness areas and interviewed agency officials and other people associated with those sites. Because I needed to do these interviews in person, I also took the opportunity to photograph the places I was researching. Not all of these photos are of wilderness specifically, but they are all of public lands.
